Description:

This workshop aims to create discussion on the topics of removing barriers in the cancer care pathway and recognizing new sources of value for HTA, with a specific focus on blood cancers. The 2017 WHO Cancer Resolutions and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan lay out initiatives to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancers. However, blood cancers remain underserved and underrecognized. Treatment outcomes are drastically impacted by delays in treatment initiation and choice of therapy and the Covid-19 pandemic has further impacted outcomes for patients across the globe. During this workshop, the audience will have opportunity to voice their opinions and open dialogue between policy makers and industry. Furthermore, this workshop will discuss changes in the policy environment with a specific focus on Europe’s joint clinical assessment which will begin in 2025. The current model for HTA in Europe consists of over 25 independent national assessments which causes disparities and inequalities in access to medicines. Europe’s joint clinical assessment aims to reduce these disparities by creating one level of clinical assessment across the EU. This provides opportunity to implement a harmonized approach to utilizing new sources of value for HTA such as surrogate endpoints and RWE.
